How to study German in the virtual classroom

How does the German virtual classroom work?

Our German virtual classroom works regarding learning contents actually the same as presential lessons. I will send you the link to join and participate. During the lesson, we all see each other and therefore eye contact is always guaranteed. You see your classmates and me, the teacher, and can also recognize the pronunciation by the lips and thus understand it even better. I share the virtual whiteboard as well as the exercise sheets with you so that you can always follow up the learning content in writing. Important: all participants and I have our cameras on. This makes the lessons personal again and we feel the team spirit of our group! How to study German in the virtual classroom

The benefits of German online lessons

First: Benefits of the virtual whiteboard

We all know the typical situation when the teacher writes something on the board, then wipes it out to write something new. That is the advantage of online German lessons, namely that nothing gets lost. In concrete terms, this means that the whiteboard is a Word document in which all the contents of the whiteboard are saved for reference. After each lesson, I send you the Word file with the suggested homework. In this way, you can read up on our content at any time and also work on it. How to study German in the virtual classroom

Second: Benefits of digitised worksheets

During the lessons, we also work with worksheets in Word or PDF format, among other things, which I then send to you after the lesson for viewing or as homework. You simply create a folder in which you save the worksheets by date so that you can refer to them again. This saves time searching and also paper. How to study German in the virtual classroom

Third: Benefits of sharing screen during German lessons

I share all the contents of the virtual whiteboard with you on the screen.

Chat function: If you have urgent questions during the lesson, you are welcome to use the chat function.

Fourth: Benefits of guided conversation

You certainly know this when the teacher asks you at the beginning of the lesson about your daily routine, your weekend or your hobbies. This is also very important so that every student has his or her speaking time and gets a chance to speak. It’s a pity, really, if you only speak but are not improving. In the end, this does you very little good. My method is based on writing down mistakes on our digital classroom board and then discussing the mistakes together. Because we all make mistakes and can benefit from the mistakes of our course colleagues. It’s not about speaking for a long time, but in a controlled and correct way. And that’s what you learn with me! In this way, I can define your strengths and weaknesses and give you further exercises in the general interest.

Fifth: Benefits of homework control in our virtual classroom

If you do exercises from our German book, you can often correct on your own using the solution key in the book. However, if you compose your own email or a few sentences yourself, you will of course need the teacher – i.e. me.

How do we correct homework in face-to-face lessons?

With several students, it can be very time-consuming if I go to each student’s table and correct. That’s why I recommend writing less. Take the time to think carefully about what you want to write if the content is small.

How do we correct our homework in the virtual classroom?

You send me your own letters, emails, WhatsApp, descriptions or essays in advance so that I can then share and correct them during the lesson. Afterwards, you will receive the correction back so that you can retrace the mistakes. Of course, this requires that all documents are digitized in Word format. Unfortunately, we cannot work with handwriting in the virtual classroom.
